Rare Hearts is Joe Rojas (he/him), a Los Angeles-based, Mexican-American, singer, songwriter and guitarist.
Growing up around gangs, Rojas always felt like an outsider and learned to be resilient through all the loss, abuse, and depression he experienced. Hoping to bring together people like himself, Rojas dedicates Rare Hearts to the outcasts and the outsiders, the “weird” and the lonely. For Rojas, to be a “rare heart” means embracing all beings’ true, imperfect self without societal expectations - including yourself.
“Good Times,” his upcoming debut single out May 28, 2021, moves past a breakup positively by reminiscing on the good memories from it. Breakups often result in intense grief and anger that feels never ending. He encourages others to practice this alternative way of letting go of a loved one to find peace within.
When the pandemic hit, Rojas and his producer and co-writer, Sam Sobo, were in the midst of recording his debut EP. They creatively developed a process to finish it using Zoom and Audiomovers plus socially distanced in-person sessions. Unlike many musicians during the pandemic, Rojas was lucky to have COVID-safe access to record in his own backyard - his place is on the same grounds as a recording studio.
Other than music, Rojas loves to hike, camp, practice Muay Thai, and take sporadic adventures and thrills. He can usually be found with his guitar and tries to see the beauty in life.
Expect a second single followed by a self-titled EP later in 2021.
